Ashfield House

The site is located within the heritage conservation of Ashfield Municipality.
Due to the heritage significance of the street, the challenge was to maintain the single storey appearance from the street as well as be sympathetic to the original bungalow style architecture, yet create an addition which addresses today’s modern day living and accommodate a growing family.

The outcome is a simple open planned living area on ground floor with good access to the outdoor terrace and a master bedroom retreat upstairs under a traditional pitched roof design. Dramatic spaces and a sense of space were achieved through the use of voids and double height spaces which provided a strong vertical connection between the two floors.
