Tamarama Surf Life Saving Club
The members of the Tamarama Surf Life Saving Club approached a selected list of architects to put forward a proposal for the upgrade and extension of the organizations building located on the beach. The building is heritage listed so the design had to retain the existing fabric.
With an incredible position and view of the beach the main objective was to take advantage of this by opening up the building with glazing to the views. An elevated outdoor terrace provided an area where functions could be held with the beach as the backdrop.
A large double storey void cuts though the entire building allowing solar access in to the heart of the building and visually connecting the various functions of the building. A lightweight roof with glass over the void hovers over the existing heritage fabric without touching to ensure that the heritage significance of the building would always be recognised.
The members are currently still deciding on a successful tenderer.
